Non-Word Sense

By Zenpunkist

People like to play with poetry, but it rarely plays back. Cynical or self-absorbed self-pitying attention whores rhyming
inflecting emoting something from deep inside them. And people applaud. How awful. How awful is it all? How awful are
people all? You and me and us all? I mean I love you and you’re beautiful and all, but on the other hand, there’s all else.
What else is worth pursuing when you have nothing but words?

When I was a kid, I’d write pages and pages of curvy letters and bring them to my sister.

“Is any of this handwriting?”

“No.”

“Not even a single word?”

“No.”

“None of this means anything?”

“It’s just scribbles.”

“Well, I know, but did I at least make any letters?”

“There’s lots of letters - e’s, o’s, and l’s here and there, but none make words.”

“Oh. How old were you when you learned handwriting?”

23 years later, I continue writing pages of words hoping something will accidentally make sense.
