Creation of the Magickal Motto

By Frater Kentroversy

Note: In the following essay, I refer to the magician with the use of the convenient male pronoun. However, realizing that not all magicians are men, I have done this to avoid the constant his or her references when describing magicians and their actions.

The creation of a magickal motto is one of the most important aspects of the identity of every magician. As part of the magickal training, it sets the student off in the direction of understanding what is their true purpose in this lifetime. The True Will of the magician is different for everyone, but they all have this in common: “Every man and every woman is a star.” [Liber AL I:3] Which is to say that everyone has their own identifiable path, and like all the stars of the celestial temple, each is set upon its’ own unique orbit, and has its’ own unique purpose.

Aleister Crowley wrote in The Book of the Great Auk, that:

“. . . each star is the Centre of the Universe to itself, and that a ‘star,’ simple, original, absolute, can add to its omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence without ceasing to be itself; that its’ one way to do this is to gain experience.”

One of the major reasons why Aleister Crowley was so viciously attacked by the various organized religious institutions, and why magicians in general are largely misunderstood by society, is because of this simple fact --- the system of magick empowers the individual. As quite a case can be made for organized religion and its’ associated dogma being used to emasculate and subjugate its’ followers, I need not go beyond the reference of the organized religions calling such people sheep. Aside from the obvious dehumanization involved, calling their subjects sheep forever brands these people as perpetual followers. Sadly, there are billions of people upon this planet who seek to do nothing but follow the one who is directly in front of them, even as lambs are led to their slaughter.

For it is written that “There is no law beyond do what thou wilt,” [Liber 837 – The Law of Liberty; Equinox III:1, pg. 47] and that “Love is the Law, Love under Will. [Liber AL I:57] Those who fear self-reliance and bearing self-responsibility for all actions never broadcast this part of Crowley’s message. They are left only with their fantasies of unproven evil deeds and empty accusations, which unfortunately, hound those of us upon the magickal path. However, I could care less what others think. I have lost some of my so-called friends because of my own practice of magick; however, in the end, these are the very type of people with whom I would rather not associate. Therefore, losing these so-called friends has not been much of a loss, after all.

My purpose in this essay is to outline some of the considerations that go into the construction and powering-up of the magickal motto, or aspiration name, as some have called it. Whatever one wishes to call it, it is simply a word or a phrase that represents the True Will and identity of the magician. Just as all magickal acts and rituals become successful after the construction of layer upon layer of correspondence after correspondence related to the task at hand, the magickal name and identity of the magician must follow this established pattern of provable success.

In the case of Kentroversy as the magickal identity of the one who is known to the exoteric world as K.·. D.·. B.·., the following disciplines were adhered to: Astrology, Cabala, Tarot, Numerology and Magick. The first four of these disciplines, boiled down to their values in the Cabalistic system of Notariqon, which employs the first letter of each of these four words, leaves us with the following; A C T N. Thusly, these four systems condense into a single word, which reveals one basic truth behind the magician esoterically known as Kentroversy. It is ONLY through the application of the Action of Magick, by which favorable results are obtained.

Incidentally, the phrase Action of Magick is the numerical equivalent of 2,151. This is the mystical number of the phrase from which is derived a Hebrew name of God, under the Cabalistic system of Notariqon: “Achad Rosh Achdotho Rosh Ichudo Temurahzo Achad,” which in English, translates as: “One is His Beginning; One is His Individuality; His Permutation is One.” This is usually expressed as Ararita, an acronym that is used in both the Lesser and Greater Rituals of the Hexagram, magickal rites of daily practice and usage. Because of this correspondence alone, I have come to understand that I have the full force of the Universe to support both myself and my own practice of magick.

Every organized religion that seeks control, forces its’ members into an identity-less group, where they are referred to as a flock of sheep, with little or no reference to, nor concern for, the individuality that each person possesses. This is all about creating group-think and forcing people to think and behave only as a group, with the ultimate purpose being the destruction of the individual’s True Will. In order to break down the individual’s True Will, first, their personal identity must be supplanted. The last thing that these institutional systems desire is a bunch of individuals running around hither and yonder, expressing their own Free Wills!

In Crowley’s magnum opus of theoretical magick, Liber ABA [Magick: Book 4], pgs. 127-128, it is stated:

“That is to say, every human being is intrinsically an independent individual with his own proper character and proper motion.

Every man and woman has a course, depending partly on the self, and partly on the environment, which is natural and necessary for each. Anyone who is forced from his own course, either through not understanding himself, or through external opposition, comes into conflict with the order of the Universe, and suffers accordingly.”

The enemies of Truth are always saying that ‘Do what thou wilt’ means ‘Do whatever you please, damn the consequences.’ However, what Crowley was talking about was something quite different and of a much greater significance. The True Will of a person is equated with the reason they have been issued forth onto this plane of existence, their reason for being. In Frater K’s younger years, people were always saying about how the obvious gift of communication would build wealth working in a career as a salesman. But, as it turned out, the True Will of Frater K was to work as a writer and research-journalist, and as one who could explain complicated matters in everyday language.

As dishonesty continues to proliferate throughout all of our lives, my own steadfast commitment to the Truth, no matter how uncomfortable, must remain intractable. As a matter of fact, I remain truthful even during times when it harms me to do so. It would serve no purpose for me to claim to be 100% honest, 100% of the time, and then begin to lie when the going gets tough. My association with Truth in this context, places me in a distinct minority in today’s world. However, this has helped to streamline my life, by removing all the clutter that should have never been there in the first place. This skill of organization was very helpful in my studies as a student of magick, and has greatly contributed to success in all other areas of my life.

The magician who knows who they truly are, and who is doing their own True Will, is a very powerful individual, indeed. By knowing who and what I am as a magician, I also know what I am not. This is the point at which the magician begins to formulate and synthesize their own magickal motto. This motto, this name, this identity; is usually an expression of what the magician is setting out to accomplish, as well as the identity of the magician himself. This might sound complicated, but for those who understand both themselves and the process, the results are often just as intriguing as they are rewarding.

For those who know Frater K, they all agree that Kentroversy is the ultimate expression of my own interests, concerns, anxieties, and aspirations. Because of my own studies and research, I have come to the distinct conclusion that the general population has not been told the truth about the latent abilities of the human brain. We are told that the human being has five senses; sight, hearing, speech, touch, and taste. This is what we are told, and because we have been conditioned to accept everything that authority figures tell us, few people dare to search beyond this serious impediment, to see for themselves, if there lies anything beyond this false limitation.

There are many tribal oral histories of this planet that discuss people in ancient times communicating without speech, such as we know it today. This, of course, is a reference to telepathy, one of the human abilities that has been shut down through the government-based compulsory education system and also through the popular mass media. Those readers who have a best-friend or life-partner whom they describe as a soul-mate, will immediately know of telepathy from their own experiences, where information is transmitted without words, with both individuals finding themselves finishing the others’ sentences --- is one example of extra-sensory perception that is actually quite common.

For one example of telepathy found in tribal oral history, Credo Mutwa, the 84 year-old Sangoma [shaman/healer] of the Zulu nation, in a 2002 interview, discussed the use of telepathy as the primary method of communication on this planet, predating both spoken and written languages. When humans developed speech communication, Credo wrote in his 1996 book Song of the Stars;at one time all humans on this planet spoke the same language.”

The King James Version of the Holy Bible says the following in Genesis 11:1:

“And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.”

Credo further states in his book Song of the Stars:

“I have seen white men and black men who have used the so-called differences between the various languages of the world to stir up nation against nation and race against race. These people have kept human languages divided and labeled with tiny little labels like stolen goods in a thief’s storeroom. And, they ignore the fact that human languages have more in common than they are different, and that should we ever point out these similarities in language to the people’s of this world, the stirring up of people against people by using language as the goad, would immediately fall away.”

The human being has been deprived their full mental heritage, as the following past abilities of all humans have been shut down, and we are even told that they do not exist, and anyone who claims to have such abilities are considered by many to be a bit loony. These abilities include (but are not limited to); telepathy, extra-sensory perception [all sensations beyond the five senses], clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and prophecy. All of these abilities are spoken of in the various ancient and indigenous cultures of this planet, and such abilities, long since dormant in the typical human specimen, have all been discounted by modern historians and psychologists.

For those interested in such historical trivia, Pythagoras, in addition to being a mathematician, was also a high-level initiate of the Mysteries. Students of Crowley and the magnificent Equinox will immediately recognize the genesis of what ended up being expressed as volume two of said publication in the following quote concerning Pythagoras, which has been taken from William Wynn Westcott’s treatise on the occult meaning of numbers, first published in 1890:

“The school of Pythagoras had several peculiar characteristics. Each new member was obliged to pass a period of five years of contemplation in perfect silence …”

For those unfamiliar with The Equinox, volume two was said to be published in complete silence between the years of 1914-1919, which was, perhaps not so coincidentally, a period lasting exactly five years! If I may spend a moment on the subject of The Equinox, the journal of scientific illuminism, I implore all readers who are so inclined to study Crowley, to immediately make it your business to pick up all published and available volumes of this phenomenal periodical. The sheer density of the intelligence and straightforwardness in The Equinox is unsurpassed in the entire canon of occult literature. It has been referred to as the encyclopedia of initiation, and is an absolute joy to own and read. It should become the centerpiece of every serious magician’s library. To assist the reader in this effort, I have provided a complete list of every issue of the Equinox that has ever been published. Several numbers of The Equinox are available as free PDF downloads, and I have provided the links from where they are available online. The list appears below among the source references listing at the very end of this essay.

Note: As concerns The Equinox, there is one caveat, however. Among the many worthwhile articles, essays, stories, poems, ritual instructions, and official documents of both the O.T.O. and the A.·. A.·., there also happens to be some chaff. Some of this material is lacking, and in spite of this, the publication remains a worthwhile addition to every serious magician’s library. Considering that the entire Equinox series is more than 7,500 pages in length, it was remarkable that a reasonable consistency was sustained throughout the many years it has been published. Furthermore, the writings of Crowley also make for an interesting exercise in the study of exoteric symbolism, and how it can conceal esoteric information and its’ associated hidden meanings. For more on this, please read The Temple of Solomon The King; which was serialized throughout volume one. This series of long discussions of magickal rites and practice, are valuable to the beginning student of magick, as a great deal of instruction and direction is provided.

From where does the magician get his power?

Liber ABA [Magick: Book 4], pg. 128, says the following about from where the magician receives his power:

“A man who is doing his true will has the inertia of the Universe to assist him.”

The commonly known factoid, that human beings use only 5% of their total brain capacity, I have come to understand, is in fact, true. This other 95% can be easily manipulated through the system of magick. A tremendous part of the early work every magician performs involves the training of the mind. Serious students of the occult sciences understand that the Universe harbors energies and forces that are readily available to be used as a source of personal energy. In my own magick diary excerpts that have been published in the first two issues of the Maybe Logic Academy organ Maybe Quarterly, a process was described whereby precious gems and crystals were used to power, direct, and amplify energy from the Universal Engine.

On pg. 129 of this same book, Liber ABA [Magick: Book 4], Crowley states the following about the forces of the Universe:

“Every force in the Universe is capable of being transformed into any other kind of force by using suitable means. There is thus an inexhaustible supply of any particular force that we may need.”

If the reader doubts for a moment that there are forces of evil and darkness that Do Not know about these Universal Truths and how they work, they are only kidding themselves. The reason why such a tremendous effort has been undertaken to discredit the ideas behind magick and the words and writings of Aleister Crowley, has been to dissuade as many people as possible from searching for and implementing these Universal Truths. There appears to have been an inordinate amount of energy spent to discredit Crowley in particular, an effort that seems excessive, considering that he was only one man. Nevertheless, it appears that Crowley must have harbored some mighty important truths, to have withstood such venomous and vitriolic attacks.

Recognizing that the practice of magick equals freedom, it is my own personal True Will to proselytize this system of mental training, advancement, and spiritual ascension --- which is ultimately what my own life’s work has been all about. Why panic and fear an unseen and unprovable existence of God, when one can release their own God Within? Crowley stated over and over again that “Love is the Law, love under Will” and if magick and Thelema are all about love, then what is there left to fear? Thelema is the only religious system that I know of that is supremely dedicated to the love and ascension of the individual, and there have been no wars and no killing done in its’ name.

This is much more than I can say for the many other organized religions of this world.

The creation of Kentroversy as magickal motto:

Traveling along on the magickal path, the most appropriate description of the one commonly known to the exoteric world as K.·. D.·. B.·., has been the elevenfold name Kentroversy. This is the nickname given by closest friend Robert, who is himself, a massage therapist. The reason for this nickname was because of my penchant for truth no matter the cost, and my frequent research and discussion of subjects, which are considered by most people, to be controversial. Robert has been more of a brother to me, than my real brother has ever been. But, I do not fault my own brother, for it wasn’t his fault what our father did to our mother.

When examining the name Robert in terms of Gematria, the following is discovered. Robert equates to 813, which is the other number associated with the magickal word Ararita, which is the Hebrew acronym of One is His beginning; One is His Individuality; His permutation is One. The number 813 also relates to the word signa, which means, among other things, with standards. Robert’s last name corresponds to the number 126, which means hospitality, and humble. The combination of these two numbers is 939, which in one sense, equates to the shining light of the sun at dawn.

As I mentioned, Robert is a massage therapist, and his nickname is Massage Bob, which equates to 170 (Massage) and 10 (Bob), which adds up to 180. The Gematric correspondences are thus: 170, a cup or vessel, a wand or (the will), as Crowley writes in Cap. VI, Magick in Theory and Practice, [Liber ABA Magick: Book 4, pgs. 62-72]. The number 180 corresponds with to sweep away, elevated or high, and exalted. The conclusion that the reader may come to regarding mine and Robert’s close friendship is that he serves as one who possesses high standards of truth and light, as he has a humble and hospitable personality. Our friendship itself serves as a vessel in which higher states of consciousness or being are reached whenever we are together. Another aspect of our friendship is that we each help to sweep away the others’ troubles and worries, as we have reached that deeper transcendental state, and are not merely beer or football buddies.

In other words, we are much more than merely fair-weather friends . . .

Method of Constructing the Magickal Motto:

The manner of constructing a magickal motto involves the layering of overlapping correspondences. This layering provides a sturdy armor, and aides the magickal process by adding to the magician’s own power AND protection. I will show the reader how this can be done, by using certain aspects of my own magickal motto. While I certainly will not reveal the secret keys to unlocking my power as a magician, I will demonstrate how the student of magick can begin and proceed through the process of naming and empowering their own magickal identity.

As Crowley himself wrote in Liber ABA, pg. 63, concerning the magical motto:

“Word should express Will: hence the Mystic name of the Probationer is the expression of his highest Will. There are, of course, few Probationers who understand themselves sufficiently to be able to formulate this will to themselves, and therefore at the end of their probation they choose a new name.”

As Crowley further wrote in a letter dated November 10-11, 1943, which appears in Magick Without Tears, pg. 21:

“. . . a name is a formula of power. […] For the type of energy is eternal. Every name is a number: and ‘Every number is infinite: there is no difference.’ [Liber AL I:4] But one name, or system of names, may be more convenient either (a) to you personally, or (b) to the work you are at.”

Because we are talking about personal power here, it is important for the student to begin a process of self-examination. This process will help identify areas where the student excels, and it is from this reservoir where the magickal motto is drawn. In my own magickal life, all of the following became significant parts of my own magician’s identity: books, writing and publishing, truth, and opening people’s eyes to the reality of the world. Because writing and communications are such strong and prominent components of my personality and abilities, it would have been foolish not to utilize this energy current for my own use and benefit.

My own A.·. A.·. degree mottos have included the following references to writing and truth:

Zelator 2<=9< – Hoc Est Verum Et Nisi

[The Truth and Nothing But]

Practicus 3<=8< – Vincit Omnia Veritas

[Truth Conquers All]

Philosophus 4<=7< – Vitam Impendere Vero

[To Risk One’s Life For Truth]

Adeptus Major 6<=5< – Kentroversy Defensatrix Bibliotheca

[Kentroversy Defends Books and Knowledge]

Magister Templi 8<=3< – Perscribo Et Invenio Tripudium Adamo Scriptum

[Write and Find Ecstasy in Writing]

My own force of desire, to borrow a phrase from Christopher S. Hyatt PhD., placed in myself and in my own magickal knowledge and abilities, the tools that have helped me to focus on my writing and research, and along the way, I have assembled a top-notch magickal reference library, where all the classics of many disciplines are fully represented. This in turn, has given me the confidence to write my own rituals, a process by which I have seen no evidence of failure or lesser results.

As Crowley wrote in John St. John, pgs. 4-5:

“The Universe of Magick is in the mind of a man […] therefore, we set out diligently to explore and map these untrodden regions of the mind.”

Crowley also implored his students to construct a map of their own Magickal Universe, the record of which is the magician’s diary. A cookbook, if you will, the magick diary is a highly personal experience to each magician. Throughout the pages, which stretch across many volumes and many years, it is in these pages that the magician’s own system and understanding of that system appear.

James A. Eshelman, in his book The Mystical & Magical System of the A.·. A.·., pg. 61, had the following to say about the Aspiration Name [magickal motto]:

“It is generally known that students of magick assume a special ‘magical name’ or ‘motto’ by which to distinguish from their mundane or civil identities. Depending on the situation or context, these ‘magical names’ may serve quite varied purposes.

The particular type of ‘magical name’ or ‘motto’ which the Probationer-candidate is to select generally what is called an ‘aspiration name.’ It is a declaration of the seeker’s spiritual aspiration, to the best of his ability to articulate this at the beginning of the journey. Usually, these are phrased in Hebrew, Greek, or Latin; but we have seen a few expressed in the person’s native language. There is no rule on this.”

While it is true that there is no exact and precise method of arriving at your own magickal motto, this leaves the interpretation wide open to the magician, and the wide array of methodology employed is as varied as there are magicians practicing at any given time on this planet. I can show you how I achieved this for myself, but the information provided here must be used as a guide only, and are not merely answers to be copied upon your own crib sheet. There is no final exam, per se. Meeting with your own teacher will determine if you have succeeded, insofar as the motto/name you pick describes what you are all about as a magician.

Method of Powering-Up the Magickal Motto:

The method of consecrating and powering-up a magickal motto, varies from person to person. It may come in the form of a prayer, a mantra, or a formula which is private to the magician. In the matter of the consecration of the magickal motto Kentroversy, the exact method used cannot be discussed openly, because to do so will reveal the exact manner of unlocking the secret key of that which empowers the motto. Thus, we have one of many reasons why separate exoteric and esoteric meanings have been used throughout the centuries by the Magi and other students of the various Mystery Schools.

Speaking in general terms, however, let me say that consecration may be performed by repeated acts of Will, which reinforce the structure and the foundation set forth by the intent behind the choice of the magickal identity. Other methods that have been proven successful have been the use of oaths, the consecration of the magickal motto as a talisman, the consecration of the motto as an elemental weapon in the magickal arsenal, and the binding of the self to the motto as a method of self-consecration.

The following has been written in Liber ABA [Magick: Book 4], pg. 156:

“After the Magician has created his instrument, and balanced it truly, and filled it with the lightnings of his Will, then is the weapon laid away to rest; and in this Silence, a true Consecration comes.”

This is perhaps the best way in which to think of this process; in the creation of the magickal motto, comes a further weapon that the magician may use in his daily work. The best advice I can offer is this; let the student use their own Free Will to determine what is their true purpose for being, and in so doing, the creation of the motto should occur through a period of self-assessment. This allows the method of consecration to be as unique as the individual magician himself.

The Magick Diary:

The first thing my students have asked me about their own magick diaries, concerns the nature of data appropriate for inclusion. As the magick diary is different from the other types of diaries and journals that are kept, the answer to this varies from person to person. On pgs. 50-51 of Magick Without Tears, Aleister Crowley describes the types of information that is appropriate to include in the magick diary, which is the best place at which to start:

“For a start, of course, you should put down the words that are bound to come your way in any case: numbers like 11, 13, 31, 37 and their multiples; the names of God and the principal angels; the planetary and geomantic names; and your own private and particular name with its’ branches [correspondences]. After that, let your work on the Astral Plane guide you. When investigating the name and other words communicated to you by such beings as you meet there, or invoke, many more will come up in their proper connections. Very soon, you will have quite a nice Sepher Sephiroth of your very own. Remember to aim, above all things, at coherence.”

Before I dive right into the matter of the how’s and the why’s of Kentroversy, allow me a moment to briefly discuss the magick diary. This is your own private encyclopedia of magick, which describes the system that works for you, and you alone. The magick diary is much more than a diary, it is a storehouse of all the knowledge that has been accumulated from the very first step along the magickal path. Crowley described the magick diary as a book of results, however, it is much more than this as well. It is a series of books stretching across many volumes that chart progress, and lay the groundwork for the personal understanding of how the system of magick works for the diary owner. In the case of Kentroversy, the magick diary is a story of ascension and the breaking away from the organized religion under which I was raised.

If I may take a few steps beyond what Crowley had to say in the above quote, allow me to add that the student’s own diary should contain maps of the various symbols used in the system of magick; a listing of the four elements, zodiac signs, geomantic correspondences, alchemical correspondences, Hebrew alphabet tables, Tree of Life diagrams, as well as the complete daily rituals, written out in the hand of the student himself. Additionally, the student is also recording ritual workings (and their results), along with every incident of spiritual enlightenment that occurs along the way.

And even this list is incomplete, for there are many more events, feelings, coincidences, and occurrences that are likewise just as important. Let your intuition guide you in this matter, and be sure to be as complete as possible when describing events of today. This is because when you refer back to this system in later years, you are going to be sadly disappointed if you left out something important. Likewise, be careful about writing in code, because many magicians in the past have forgotten the key to their code, which effectively rendered useless, that part of their diary system. At that stage, whatever it was that was so important to have been written in code, will have been forever lost to the mists of time.

Kentroversy as Magickal Motto:

The magickal motto that is constructed properly will contain both exoteric and esoteric correspondences and influences. The exoteric, or public, correspondences are known to the outside world, while the esoteric influences are hidden and kept private by the magician, the esoteric is recognized by other initiates. This dichotomy is found throughout society. This is seen perhaps most prevalently in the symbols used by major international corporations, where the corporate logo becomes an irresistible magical sigil, complete with its’ own power to excite the urge to buy their products and/or services.

My own discovery of the name of Kentroversy, and its’ associated number, came to me by way of a comment made by my closest friend, Robert. We were visiting at my home one day long ago, and were discussing events of the day, as we often do. Because of my penchant for all things hidden, obscure, and controversial; he remarked to me that I was “always trying to start a Kentroversy.” I knew as soon as he said this, that he was onto something important.

“What did you say?” I asked.

“You are always trying to start a Kentroversy,” he repeated, with a sly grin. It was not meant to be a negative comment, nor was it taken that way. I recognized right there and then, that Kentroversy described me unlike nothing else so concise. I am known as being brutally honest, and because of my Sagittarian fire, many times the emphasis is on the brutal. I am not violent or physical, but rather, brutal as in cutting someone to the quick in a single sentence. While I am widely respected for being consistently honest, I have been told that I am overwhelming because of the intense auric energy and the multi-dimensionality of my thinking.

I have always been able to see the big picture and the hidden agendas, as I analyze matters from every conceivable angle. While this does benefit me in ways both large and small, it does have the propensity to freak people out because they have no conception of such thinking in their own minds. This system of thinking octophorusly involves the re-wiring of the brain in a four-axis system of eight polar opposites. While outside of the purview of this document, I shall endeavor to write about this concept at some time in the future.

I knew immediately that not only did this word of Kentroversy describe me; but it also described my two and one-half decades of study of the various mystery religions, magick, and the hidden (but true) history of the world. Yes, my own life’s work has been controversial to those around me who cannot tolerate anything the slightest bit out of the ordinary. I have lost friends who were simply incompatible with the path my life had led me toward. While I have mourned the loss, I also understood that others who were compatible with this new direction my life had taken, would appear and who would fill the void left by the absence of the departed ones.

When Robert left my home that day, I immediately hit the books, to begin searching for the hidden meaning of Kentroversy. This did not take long, and at the outset, I recognized that there was a special mystical number associated with Kentroversy, but more on that matter in the numerology section of this document. One aspect of my life had a rather interesting correspondence to the Holy Christian Bible, which relates to what I have come to call nightmares of prophecy, which I have been having most of my life, beginning when I was very young. These nightmares of prophecy were actual dreams and night visions, that would also occur during sessions of intense meditation. In these terrifying visions, I would see future events, which would later unfold weeks, and sometimes months later. When I was young, I simply did not understand why this was happening to me. Eventually, they would reveal information that I could use to protect myself and/or my loved ones. Later yet, I would be able to use the information passed along to myself in these dreams to come to an understanding about the extremely negative events that surround us all in today’s world. I realized that I, being one person, could not change these negative forthcoming events, but what I could do, was change my own response to them. This was the key, the use of this data to survive and thrive under these increasingly negative circumstances.

Because my middle name is Daniel, I was very intrigued when I discovered the following in the 1611 translation of the King James Version of the Holy Bible:

Daniel 2:19“Then was the secret revealed to Daniel in a night vision.”

Daniel 2:22“He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth within him.”

I believe that my parents somehow knew what type of person I would be when they named me as a newborn infant; as my first name, Kent, relates to knowledge and understanding, and my middle name being that of a biblical prophet. Thus, when I later developed these skills and advanced esoteric understanding, the coincidence was remarkable. The various energies and influences that are present at each of our births is yet one more thing about which the general public has not been told the truth. Anything that empowers us is withheld, while everything that emasculates and subjugates us, is rammed down our throats from literally birth until death.

If you will recall from earlier on, I listed the systems under which Kentroversy was transformed into my own magickal identity. These were referenced by Notariqon, A C T N of Magick. These were Astrology, Cabala, Tarot, Numerology, and of course, Magick. These five disciplines also refer to the five elements of the magickal pentagram; Astrology for Air; Qabala for Earth; Tarot for Fire; Numerology for Water; and Magick for Spirit.

The reasons for the above-named correspondences are fairly straightforward.

Because the system of Astrology deals with heavenly bodies and their influence on earthly inhabitants and events, it is attributable to the Air. The system of Cabala and its’ Tree of Life deal with the explanation of ordered existence, and because of the symbolism of the pantacle and the Tree of Life being itself a living piece of wood, Cabala is attributable to Earth. The understanding of how perfect a system the Tarot is, lights a fire under the student’s feet, inspiring and encouraging further steps along the path. It has been my own experience with magick, that the more I learn, the more I want to know. Numbers flow throughout all our lives; through license and account numbers, bankbook balances, and straight down to the core of quantum physics. Thusly, Numerology is itself attributed to Water. Finally, the system of magick itself is attributable to Spirit. The reasons for this final correspondence are self-explanatory, and require no further comments.

Finally, the manner in which the rest of this essay will be presented, is in the order set forth by the Action of Magick Notariqon expression.

Astrological Aspects of Kentroversy:

The one who is known as K.·. D.·. B.·. was born on Thursday, November 23, 1961 at 10:30am, under the sign of Sagittarius, a fire sign. Sagittarius is also related to the Hebrew letter Samekh, which itself relates to the 25th path (2 + 5 = 7) on the Tree of Life, which connects Tiphareth (Sol) to Yesod (Luna). The ruling planet of Sagittarius is Jupiter, which also rules over Pisces, the zodiacal sign of my son A.·. O.·. B.·.. The angel of the Thursday ten o’clock hour is Michael, and the planet ruling that day and hour is Sol, which itself, obviously represents fire, the planetary influence under which the mother of my son was born. Perhaps not so coincidentally, my own brother is named Michael. This particular Thursday was Thanksgiving Day morning, and every year since I can remember, my birthday cake was among the succulent and mouth-watering desserts laid out after the annual Thanksgiving Day harvest feast.

If this date is written as 11/23/61, we are left with the equivalent of a double seven, i.e. (1 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 7) and (6 + 1 = 7). Obviously, 7 + 7 = 14, and as such, relate to the 14th Tarot Trump, Temperance. Temperance is attributable to Sagittarius, and if one adds these digits (1 + 4 = 5), the sum is equal to the day of my birth, the 23rd (i.e. 2 + 3 = 5). Another coincidence is that my house number also happens to be 14! There will be an expanded discussion of this under the sub-chapter relating to the numerological aspects of this magickal motto.

As mentioned, the ruling planet of Sagittarius happens to be Jupiter, which corresponds to the number 4, which is one of the numbers of Kentroversy. The Sepheria of The Tree of Life that corresponds to Jupiter is Chesed, which itself represents mercy. It’s concept is one of construction, expansion, and solidification. Considering that the primary work of my life has related to spiritual ascension, it is not surprising that these ideas are all related to the conditions under which I was born. The path of the Tree of Life that is attributable to Jupiter is that of Kaph, the 21st path, which runs between the fourth sepheria of Chesed/Mercy and the seventh sepheria of Netzach/Victory. Here we have the K of Kentroversy, along with the 4 and the 7, which are two of the three digits of the mystical number of Kentroversy. The 21st path, if broken down to a single digit, adds up to 3 (2 + 1 = 3), which is the number of people in our household, the mother, father, and the son. Also, the 21st path is attributable to aspiration, the magickal aspirations of both parents, and the system under which the son was protected during the mother’s pregnancy, and the system under which he will be raised.

Yet another interesting pair of correspondences are the color and crystal of Jupiter, which is purple and the purple stone, Amethyst. Even though I was born under the Sagittarian sign which lists Topaz as its’ birthstone, I have always known that Amethyst was a much better and more appropriate fit. Even before I began my magickal studies, I knew this to be true. Upon consulting Judy Hall’s book entitled The Crystal Bible, the following is stated concerning amethyst:

“Amethyst has strong healing and cleansing powers, and enhances spiritual awareness. Amethyst is one of the most spiritual stones, promoting love of the divine, giving insights into its’ true nature, and encouraging selflessness and spiritual wisdom. It opens intuition and enhances psychic gifts. It strengthens the cleansing and eliminating organs and the immune system.”

The tribe of Israel ruling Sagittarius was that of Benjamin, which are the first three letters of my own last name. The path on the Tree of Life that is attributable to Sagittarius is the 25th path, which adds up to yet another 7. Furthermore, the 25th path connects the sepheria Yesod (Luna: 9) and Tiphareth (Sol: 6), which are attributable to Sol and Luna respectively. The gold pentagram and the silver magickal hexagram represent the uniting of the 5 and the 6, which produces the great number of magick, the number 11. The gold of the pentagram relates to the solar-phallic current, while the silver of the hexagram relates to the feminine-lunar current. Furthermore, as has been stated, Kentroversy itself is an elevenfold name, which further fortifies this connection. Parenthetically speaking, Kentroversy has been a life-long fan of the music of Jimi Hendrix, and Hendrix once had a song entitled If 6 Was 9, which relates to the 6 of Sol and the 9 of Luna.

The Cabalistic Aspects of Kentroversy:

The full name of the magician who is known as Kentroversy, K.·. D.·. B.·., is the Cabalistic equivalent of 224. The Sepher Sephiroth defines this number as a walk, a journey, the magickal path itself. This is especially interesting, as spiritual ascension has interested me from a very young age, and was the main reason, I suspect, as to why I was constantly being told that I was born possessing an old soul. This was what led me to the magickal path, as I was always interested in investigating first-hand, the various issues surrounding spiritual ascension. Moreover, I was even more interested in investigating for myself, the various issues surrounding information that has been kept from us, regarding the true abilities of the human brain and mind.

The primary symbol that pertains to Sagittarius is the bow, and this is why Sagittarius is called the archer. In the Golden Dawn system of magick, the letters of Qasshat (which means bow); i.e. kaph, shin, and tau, correspond to the three paths ascending from Malkuth. The Hebrew letter that corresponds to Sagittarius, samekh, symbolically represents the female aspect of the womb, where life is grown. The arrow symbol of Sagittarius reminds one of the phallus, the male organ of generation. As David Godwin states in his Cabalistic Encyclopedia, “It may be said that the bow of the three lowest paths, launches the arrow of the 25th path of the Middle Pillar, which ultimately ascends to Kether.” The mystic number of the 25th path is 325, which is the sum of all the numbers between 1-25 on the magick square of Mars. Mars represents decidedly male energy, while Venus represents decidedly female energy, and there is a famous book that describes these relationships, entitled Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus, which was written by John Gray.

The name Kentroversy is the Qabalistic equivalent of the number 172, however, when the last name initial of B is added, the number 174 appears, which reflects what I have come to call the 741 Signature, of which 741 is the mystical number of Kentroversy. I will discuss this in full in the numerology section of this essay. The Gematric correspondence of Frater Kentroversy B. is the number 1,060. This is the number of Sekhel Nisetar, which means hidden, or occult intelligence. This is formed of the following root words Sekhel, which means understanding, intelligence, consciousness, and awareness; and Nisetar, which means secret or hidden. The Sepher Sephiroth defines 1,060 as the tabernacle itself.

One possible explanation for all of this indicates that it was no accident or coincidence that I have the talent of writing and communicating important truths, and that I have an important spiritual message to deliver to the world. At the risk of sound too self-congratulatory, when one correspondence after another all relate the same basic message, it then becomes axiomatic that the message being delivered is no fluke. When everything from my full name, date and time of birth, and all the symbology associated to this information all deliver the same message, it would be rather foolish of me to NOT take note of this, and act accordingly in all areas of my life.

Furthermore, the initials K.·. D.·. B.·. are the Qabala of the Nine Chambers equivalent of 506, which equals 11, the number of the Great Work, and of energy tending to change [i.e., 5 + 6 = 11]. And, if all of this isn’t enough, the letter K just so happens to be the eleventh letter of our modern-day English alphabet. The more deeply embedded these correspondences are able to be, the greater chance of the success of the magician.

The Tarot Aspects of Kentroversy:

In the spring of 1984, an older friend of mine named Joan began asking me if she could perform a Tarot reading for me. I had been at the lowest point in my life, and at that time, I was behaving in a completely self-abusive manner. I had just lost a girlfriend whom I wanted very badly to marry, and had become extremely depressed when her father told me that he could not allow his daughter to marry me. Joan kept asking me if she could read my cards, and for awhile, I refused her offer, which she made out of deep concern for my general well-being.

When I finally relented, Joan performed her Tarot reading, providing me with two extremely important bits of information. The first was information that led me to the mystic number of Kentroversy, the second was what I first thought was a prediction, but later came to accept as premonition; as the future called out to me with a message that everything would be okay if only I could just hang on a little while longer.

The first message that Joan had for me related to a phenomenon that had already been a part of my life for the past ten-plus years. “Follow the numbers; the 1’s, 4’s, and the 7’s. Particularly when they appear together, in an unbroken sequence. This is meant to be a signpost that you are on the right path. And, you are [on the right path],” Joan whispered, rather cryptically. What this friend of mine did not know when she made that statement, was that the house number of the farm on which I grew up was 11473 Broadway!

Later in this very essay, I will explain the special significance of this name of the road on which I lived, during the many years of my childhood.

The second bit of information from Joan came out thusly:

“The woman you are pining for will never marry you, no matter how much you want it to happen. There was too much interference from her father ---,” and it was at this point I interrupted Joan. “How do you know this? I have never told you about what was for me, the single most embarrassing event of my life. How do you know this?” I again asked. I had been studying magick for seven years, from 1977 onward, when I discovered a treasure trove of Crowley material in the bedroom of my best friend’s brother, who had gone away to college. I knew the answer, but I wanted to hear what Joan’s answer was, and how much it lined up with what I already learned.

“In a Tarot divination, future events are examined, as well as the basis of current and past events. I know that you are depressed because you were greatly embarrassed by your girlfriend’s father. However, I want you to know that you will have two further girlfriends, and then, the third woman you meet after these two upcoming failed romances, you will meet the one who WILL stay with you forever. At this time, you will also beat the odds. You will do things that others will tell you, cannot be done.

Nonetheless, you will find a way of doing these things, in spite of the naysayers.”

The interesting thing is this was exactly what happened!

How Frater K Met The Rose Quartz Woman:

Friday, July 8, 1988 was the day my life took a serious turn, as it was the night I met the young woman who ended up becoming my wife. That afternoon, I had a meeting concerning an issue that is beyond the scope of this essay, therefore, I will forego the details. What was important about that day, was that this meeting ended with an invitation to for me to attend a party later that evening. I wasn’t doing anything that night anyway, so I accepted the generous offer from my host.

When I came back later that evening, I was greeted at the front door by a young blonde woman, who commented on my vehicle. It was a 1980’s vintage Pontiac Firebird, burgundy on the outside, and my favorite color of grey on the inside. After parking my car, this young woman handed me a Molson Golden Ale as I walked into a party that was filled with people I didn’t know, and the host, I had only met earlier that afternoon. An interesting coincidence was that a couple years after this, we ended up with a dog by the name of Molson Golden. The young woman introduced herself, and as my magick diary entry for that night indicated:

“All in all, it was a great time, and Paula and I talked all night long. After a bathroom stop, she came back and sat on my lap. Like a perfect gentleman, I kept my hands to myself. By the end of the night, I hadn’t even so much as made a pass at her. But, I knew immediately that there was some chemistry . . .”

The events that unfolded as the night grew late had proven that the inexorable hand of fate creates the circumstances for truly special synchronicities to take place, but, it is our own Free Will, which indicates whether or not we will act upon those circumstances. There were a number of coincidences that night; such as my having in my pocket, a disposable butane lighter that was a facsimile of a pack of cigarettes, which I had been given by another friend of mine the previous night, as we watched the sunset down by Lake Erie beach. As the party progressed, my new lady-friend pulled out a pack of cigarettes. I reached for my lighter, which matched exactly, the pack of Salem Slim Lights that she pulled out of her purse!

By midnight, she had gotten quite drunk, as she had come to the party directly from work with her friend Joanne, without first getting something to eat. Even though she lived a mere four minute walk from our host Mitch’s place, the truth was, I did not want the night to end, so I offered to drive her home. My intention was to get her phone number and call her again soon, as I thoroughly enjoyed her company that night.

When I dropped her off at her house, she stumbled walking up the front steps. I offered to help her get to her room, so she could sleep off what I knew was going to be a nasty hangover. I reminded her that I wanted her to get safely inside the house, and in no way was I trying to hit on her. When I got her to her bedroom, I immediately noticed that she had a copy of the very same book that I was reading, and both books were in exactly the same spot in our respective bedrooms! The book was Watchers by Dean Koontz, an author that I had never read before or since. In fact, I found him to be a poor knock-off of Stephen King, an author whom I personally prefer.

“You are not going to believe this, but I have this very same book in my apartment, and it is on the shelf of the headboard of my bed, in the exact same place as yours!” I announced, in a matter of fact tone of voice. “Look, this is not some plan to hit on you, I can prove it. May I have thirty minutes of your time? I can take you to my place so you can see for yourself.”

My copy of this book had been loaned to me by my secretary Sally G. the previous Tuesday, which was the very same day that Paula had gotten her copy of the book from a local library branch. I again told her that I was not trying to hit on her, and if she would kindly give me a half hour of her time, I would show her that what I had been telling her was in fact true. “As you will get to know me, you will learn that I am truthful to the extreme, and this will be something that you will come to respect about me,” I added, somehow knowing that she and I would have a future together.

She replied; “This I have got to see.”

Before we got back to my car, I asked her if she would kindly bring her copy of the book in question, to verify that it was the book that I wanted to show her, and not my apartment or bedroom. Certainly, I wasn’t saying that the book was in my bedroom, as an excuse for a cheap come-on. That isn’t who I am, for I do not operate that way! By this time, I had learned that her last name was Broad, and was the sister of two young ladies that I knew from high school. The interesting thing about this, I shall remind the reader, is that I grew up on a farm located on Broadway, and this served as a further coincidence that inexorably bound the two of us together, and continues to do so to this very day!

When we arrived at my apartment on 17 North Main Street, I told Paula that she was in for a very big surprise! I allowed her to walk into my apartment first, so she would know that I could not have staged any of this beforehand. When she actually saw the book on the headboard on my bed, I knew that she was impressed, as her eyes grew huge! She sat down on my bed, with her copy on her lap. Pulling my copy off the shelf, she looked at the page where my bookmark was. Her eyes grew wide, as her mouth fell open:

“We are on the same exact page!” she gasped.

Note: Just for the record, that page was 147, and represents what I have come to call the 741 Signature, which is an unbroken sequence of the numerals 1, 4, and 7 in any order.

After I dropped Paula off that night, I returned to Mitch’s party, where she and I met earlier that night. He said there was something he needed to tell me, before I went home, and that it could not wait. As I have the ability to see the bigger picture, I sensed that it concerned something important. Remember, since I had not met this individual until earlier that very day, there was no reason to believe or disbelieve what he was telling me. Therefore, the only way to find out would be to go back to hear the rest of what he had to say.

When I came back, Mitch was sitting at his kitchen table. He had his hand outstretched, and a huge smile on his face. “Congratulations! You have just met your wife tonight!” As he said this and we shook hands, he winked an eye at me. It was as if he knew more than he was telling. Paula and I have been together ever since that night, and as of July 2005, it has now been seventeen years. To this very day, I do not know how Mitch knew that Paula and I would get together and stay together. We are the only couple still together of our entire old gang of friends. We have run into a few of them over the years, and this has been verified by these individuals at the time of our paths having crossed.

One day a couple months after Paula and I had gotten together, I asked Mitch if he would be my Best Man. The answer he gave shook me to the core of my being. “I am sorry to say that I won’t be a part of your lives for very long. I was only here to get the two of you together, but NOT to stick around.” I found this to be a very odd thing for someone I had known for a short time to say, and it made me wonder about this man that I had been sent to see, and who became a fast-friend, as he steered me away from the path of self-annihilation and self-destruction.

I told Paula about this conversation many years later, when we had been together for more than ten years by that point. Throughout all those years until now, I often wondered about this man. Was he an angel? An agent of fortune? A harbinger of destiny? What? Also, what is the reason why we must be together? Was there something that the two of us needed to do together? Something that neither of us could do on our own? Furthermore, there was one other thing. Joan’s tarot divination had turned out to be correct, to the smallest detail. I had dated two young women, Kim H. and Michele C., and Paula was the third, thus proving that tarot divination can be exacting as it foretells future events.

Tarot Correspondences:

The Tarot and the related Tree of Life are powerful symbolic representations of the structure of the Universe, along with the spiritual physiognomy of the individual. It was absolutely essential that these two systems were used in the analysis of the mystical meaning of Kentroversy. As explained earlier, I was born on November 23, 1961 at 10:30am in Buffalo, New York USA. This means that I was born under the fire sign of Sagittarius. Because of the bluntness of my personality, it should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me personally, that one of the correspondences of this moment of my birth equate to Fire of Fire. This aspect of my personality has been referred to in metaphoric terms once again relating to fire, as my personality has been said to be a blowtorch of truth.

The planetary trump of Sagittarius is Jupiter, which corresponds to Atu 10, Fortune. Known as the Lord of the Forces of Life, Fortune corresponds to the 21st Path, joining the 4 of Chesed/Mercy/Jupiter and the 7 of Netzach/Victory/Venus. The 21st Path is expressed by the following mathematical equation: 21 = 7 x (4 – 1). The divinatory meaning of this card is Change of Fortune, and generally refers to Good Fortune, because such consultation implies anxiety of a discontented spirit, or unhappiness of current spiritual conditions. This card also corresponds to the Hebrew letter Kaph, relates to the palm of the hand, which in the Gypsy [i.e., Egyptian] tradition, the fortune of the individual is read. Incidentally, the K and the Ph of Kaph relate to the Kteis and Phallus, the two sexual organs of generation, and further relate to both Frater KDB and Soror PJB.

The zodiacal trump of Sagittarius itself is Atu 14, Art. Known as the Daughter of the Reconcilers, the Bringer forth of Life, Art corresponds to the 25th Path, joining the 6 of Tiphareth/Beauty/Sol and the 9 of Yesod/Foundation/Luna. On the Tree of Life, Tiphareth and Yesod represent Sol and Luna, respectively. What this is saying, is without the sun and moon, there would be no life here on Earth; as Sol regulates the growth of life and foodstuffs, and Luna regulates the oceanic tides of both the external planet and internal tides of the human being, as seventy percent of the human body is made up of water. The divinatory meaning of this card is a combination of forces, realization, action based upon accurate calculation, the way of escape, and most importantly, success after elaborate maneuvers. This is the explanation of why it has been throughout my entire life that the solution to vexing problems has always appeared at the last possible moment, before abject failure becomes imminent.

The Ace of Cups, referred to as the Root of the Powers of the Waters, represents the element of water. Depending on the application, this primordial liquid can satiate and quench, or serve as the liquid from which new life springs forward. This card also rules the Libra-Scorpio-Sagittarius celestial quadrant. Its’ divinatory meaning symbolizes fertility, productiveness, beauty, pleasure, and happiness. Those under the influence of this card possess the powers of the waters; cleansing, new beginnings, as well as the alchemical power to turn the water from the cup into either blood or wine, as may be needed. The Ace of Cups is symbolic of the womb of the spiritual and cosmic Yoni, which combines with the symbolism of the spiritual and cosmic Lingam of the Wands, which represent both the female-kteis and the male-phallic energies, which combine to produce a life unto their own.

The Princess of Cups, known as the Princess of the Waters; Lotus of the Palace of the Floods, together with the Ace of this suit, rules the Libra-Scorpio-Sagittarius celestial quadrant. This card balances some of the bluntness and brute-force aspects of my personality, delivering kindness and gentleness. Such kindness and gentleness manifests itself in the tremendous loyalty I place upon all relationships I feel are important to my own life. I offer boundless help to those in my life who need or can benefit from my knowledge and expertise. Known as the Earthy part of Water, this card represents diminution, the dissolution of all solidity. People under the influence of this card are very dependent upon others, but at the very same time, are just as helpful to those upon whom they depend. People under the influence of this card are imaginative, deep thinkers, yet courageous if opposed or cornered. While those under the influence of this card might appear to be at times indolent, such people prefer to go about their work in solitude. Thusly, they can say “I have done,” rather than “I am doing.”

The Knight of Wands, known as the Lord of the Flame and the Lightning, is the card representing Fire of Fire. This is where Kentroversy’s blowtorch personality comes from, and why I have been accused of being overwhelming, by those meek and mild lambs who fear to rustle the hay in the manger, lest the farmer come running to see what has gone wrong in the barn. Those under the influence of the Knight of Wands are active, generous, fierce, sudden, and impetuous. If crossed, he can go toe-to-toe with anyone, as the Knight of Fire of Fire fears nothing and no one. People under the influence of this card face equal chances of spectacular success and equally spectacular failure.

The 8 of Wands, known as the Lord of Swiftness, represents the date of birth of the one who became Kentroversy. As the name implies, Kentroversy is quick to act, although such action is not in haste. Those under the influence of this card apply too much sudden force. Positive traits that best describe this card are courage, boldness, confidence, freedom, love of open-air, gardens and meadows. Such people are known to be generous, subtle, eloquent, and of well organized thoughts. Negative traits of this card are rapaciousness, insolence, and oppression.

In summation, Frater Kentroversy is a well-spoken and learned magician who is quite thoughtful and generous to those for whom he cares. For such people, he will do almost anything to help. He is supremely organized, and this helps him to get a large quantity of work done in a very short time. However, for those whom he dislikes, or those who have fallen out of favor, Kentroversy can be quite impatient. For those who profess that they are an enemy, I have no problem getting down to business, on whatever level from which the attack originates, as such people act with great peril and risk to themselves.

Numerology Correspondences:

Numbers flow like the tides throughout our entire lives. They are a part of virtually every facet of our lives, and have become integral parts of our identities. Numbers tell us how much money we have in our pockets and bank accounts, and provide us with a material basis of our own net worth. Peek behind the veil of reality, and you will find numbers there as well. The underlying basis of the Universe is mathematics, and its’ expressions are found in everything from the Fibonacci spiral in a Nautilus shell, to the pattern of distribution amongst planetary objects in space. Numbers tell us the distance between two points, and how much fuel we need to take the trip. While it is certainly true that numbers can reveal certain truths, they are just as likely to conceal other truths.

The study of esoteric numerology allows examination of the meaning as to why certain numbers and patterns of numbers make themselves known to those of us who are trained to notice such things. The more in-depth the subject is studied, the more relationships between various number sequences are discovered. In the case of Frater K, the appearance of the numerals 1, 4, and 7 are far above statistical normality. This pattern of frequency has risen to a level of many millions-to-one, which has long ago ruled out their appearance by mere chance alone. These correspondent relationships have reasons for being, and the mystical meaning of numbers can be found in books such as the Sepher Sephiroth, Westcott’s Occult Power and Mystic Meanings of Numbers, and Godwin’s Cabalistic Encyclopedia. I further invite the truly curious reader to compare the data from these books named here, to those recently published modern new-age numerology books. One can and should do this at the library, as not to waste money on the newer books, which are full of misinformation and false data. I have found this to be true with 90% of all current reference books. If I have the chance to get a book from a rare-book publisher such as Kessinger’s, or Weiser Antiquarian Books, or an edition printed last year, I’ll take the older source every single time!

There are energies related to these numerals and number sequences, and this energy has been there since the very beginning of their usage. This has also been embedded and associated with Kentroversy, the number 741, and various other permutations of the three numerals --- the 1, 4, and 7. While these meanings are taught to those who study esoteric numerology, this information continues to be withheld from larger society.

The Mystic Number of Kentroversy:

As has been stated elsewhere, the number of Kentroversy is 741, which refers to Kether and Amen, and what I have come to call the AHA! Moment, which is the moment at which great understanding occurs. This has been my own experience with the ascension process, that there are these periodic AHA! Moments, where huge leaps of understanding occur, that widens the potential bandwidth and the magickal capacity of the individual mind. This increased capacity delivers a greater potential for success, as well as adding more force to the magickal operations being performed from that point forward.

There is a reason why the global elite are fanatical about their use of and association with certain numbers and number sequences, such as the number 33. For instance, the 33rd degree of freemasonry is said to be the pinnacle of attainment, and is an honorary degree. The reason why the 33 is exalted in this system is because in the system of twelve decans of thirty-degrees each, the final three is the width of the sun itself, and for it to pass completely from one decan to the next, it needs to pass through thirty-three degrees, once the width of the sun itself is taken into account. Therefore, when studying these systems, such as Astrology, the answers are usually found when looking skyward, and this is simply because the first-ever religion on this planet, and one that predates all subsequent religions and religious movements, was the study of Astrotheology --- the worship of the planets, stars, and other heavenly bodies that can be found in the skies above us all.

Still another expression of the 741 Signature within the name Kentroversy relates to the number of consonants and vowels in the name itself. There are seven consonants; K N T R V R S, and four vowels; E O E Y. Thus, we have the seven AND the four. But, where is the one? The seven consonants synthesize the four vowels, and together they create the one --- which is the name Kentroversy itself!

Most people see things in a very superficial way. What they see is the surface only, and no two people see things in exactly the same way. For example, in our universe, most people see vast expanses of empty space between planetary objects, stars, and asteroids. However, to the quantum physicist, this empty space is actually a form of plasma known as solar wind, and is not empty space at all. Esoteric numerology is similar to this. Whereupon certain folks will see nothing but numerals, which combine to make up larger numbers, the esoteric numerologist also sees hidden meaning behind the numbers.

As the reader can plainly see, the same three numerals; 1, 4, and 7 can be used in various configurations to deliver quite different results, depending upon which mathematical operation has been employed:

  • 7 + 4 + 1 = 12 [i.e., 12 Zodiac Signs]
  • 7 – 4 – 1 = 2 [i.e., Duality; good and evil; night and day; dark and light, etc.]
  • 7 x (4 – 1) = 21 [i.e., A vision (Hebrew)]
  • (-1 + 4) x 7 = 21 [i.e., A vision (Hebrew)]
  • (-7) x (-4 + 1) = 21 [i.e., A vision (Hebrew)]
  • 7 x 4 x 1 = 28 [i.e., 28 Theorems of Magick]
  • 7 ÷ 4 ÷ 1 = 1.75

In these seven examples above, the same three numerals can deliver much different results, depending upon the order in which they appear in the equation, as well as the mathematical operation used. Improper usage delivers unwanted and tainted results. Mathematics, just as in magick, employs the use of inviolate laws and truths in their operation. In the case of Kentroversy, there is a definite underlying structure, which is as predictable and demonstrable as are the laws of mathematics itself.

The 1, 4, and 7 have very specific meanings for Cabalists, of which I am now inclined to share with the reader.

The Number 1:

The number 1 represents the point of creation, which may be expressed as; God, the first of all things, and the maker of all things. Thelemites might refer to the number 1 as Hadit, the flashpoint of inspiration. The number 1 represents unity, which is reflected in the monad. It also refers to the intellect, the source of all ideas. It is also interesting to note that the Roman numeration began with lines, as in: I, II, III, IIII. The Roman numeral representing the number five is itself constructed of two lines in an acute angle, which gave them the V. The number for ten is constructed from two V’s, which gave them the X. For fifty, the angle of the V was rotated slightly, which gave them the L. The Roman numeral for one-hundred was constructed out of two fifties, inverted and mirrored from each other, which produced the C. For five-hundred, the C and the L combined to form the D. This number 1 also represents the first path of the Tree of Life, which is known as Kether, the crown, which is astrologically associated with the planet Pluto.

The number 1 also relates to the Infinite One, which may be depicted by use of the infinity sign. The number 1 also represents the marriage of the magician with a magickal universe of their own creation and mapping. This is represented by the talismata, sigils, pantacle, lamen, and diary of the magicians’ own design and usage.

Discussion of these aspects of the magickal practice of Frater K can be found in the first two issues of the Maybe Logic Academy student organ, the Maybe Quarterly:

The Number 4:

The number 4 represents the foundation of the cubic stone; the intersection of point, line, superficies [outer surface], and body. This number is reflected in the tetrad, which is the mathematical name for the square. The number 4 represents the cardinal points of the compass (N, S, E, W), the number of elements (fire, water, air, earth), the number of letters in Tetragrammaton (YHVH), the number of human limbs, and the number of cardinal virtues (fortitude, justice, prudence, and temperance). There are four worlds of Qabalistic Emanation; Atziluth, Briah, Yetzirah, and Assiah. The number four represents several forms of the cross; Maltese, Greek, Passional, St. Andrew’s, and the Fylfot cross, which is also known as the swastika.

Even though the four-armed emanations of the swastika were perverted and used as a black magic symbol of Nazi Germany, the Fylfot cross is constructed of 17 squares of the magic square of 25. The seventeen squares represent Sol, the twelve Zodiacal signs, and the four elements. Few people outside of esoteric circles understand the true meaning and origination of the Fylfot Cross. The word swastika is Sanskrit for ‘So Be It’ or ‘Amen,’ and has been used since at least 10,000 BC.

The true meaning of the swastika is that it is a symbol representing the Sun, daytime, and the male principle; if the four emanations face clockwise. If they face counterclockwise; they represent the Moon, nighttime, and the female principle. This symbol has appeared on ancient coins, statuary, and has been used as both religious and magical symbols. It has been found in countries as diverse as Asia Minor, Greece, China, Persia, Libya, Scandinavia, Britain, and Iceland, and has been used as a magical symbol in Europe, right up until the beginning of the twentieth century. This number 4 also represents the fourth path of the Tree of Life, which is known as Chesed, mercy, and is astrologically associated with the planet Jupiter.

The Number 7:

The number 7 represents manifestation in the fully developed form of the cube, its’ positions being 6 sides and the center point, which makes 7. The 7 also represents the seven double letters of the Hebrew language, seven days of the week, seven planets of the ancients, and so on. Of the human being, 7 represents the number of spinal vertebrae in the neck, and the number of spinal chakras in the practice of Yoga. The number seven also represents the seven deadly sins (envy, covetousness, lust, pride, anger, gluttony, and sloth), and the number of liberal arts (grammar, rhetoric, logic, arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy). This number also represents Gad, the Babylonian God of Fortune, as well as meaning in general, fortune and good luck, as in Lucky 7. This number also represents the seventh path of the Tree of Life, which is Netzach, victory, which is astrologically associated with the planet Venus.

As was mentioned in the Astrology section, I was born under the influence of the double seven, as my date of birth was 11/23/61.

The 1, 4, and 7 Combined:

The sum of the 1, 4, and 7 equals 12, which is expressed in the 12 simple letters of the Hebrew language, the 12 months of the year, the 12 permutations of Tetragrammaton, and the 12 zodiacal signs. Each sign of the zodiac has been assigned thirty degrees of the circle, and multiplying all twelve gives us the 360 degrees. Each sign has been further divided into three decans of ten degrees each. It is important to note that the numerous references to the number twelve in the bible, are all referring to the twelve zodiac signs, and not the twelve tribes, twelve sons of Jacob, and so forth.

Furthermore, we have the Twelve Grand Points of Freemasonry, which is a ritual representation of the twelve signs of the zodiac. One of the greatest and most honored secrets of the Mystery Schools is related to all of this. The Son of God, is the Sun itself. The S-U-N of God. This is because it is the SUN from which all life grows, and without the SUN of God --- there can be no light, and therefore no life. This symbolism also describes what is said to be in our bodies --- the LIGHT of God --- our SOL (soul).

Thus, SOUL = SOL = SUN

The knowledge that we obtain along the path of our spiritual journey, is always described as en-LIGHT-enment. Those who possess the hidden knowledge of the Mystery Schools refer to themselves as illuminated, or the Illuminati (the enLIGHTened ones). Again, we are seeing metaphor describe the ingesting of LIGHT (knowledge). Just as an aside, in the late 1800’s, noted Golden Dawn occultist Frater Sapere Aude [Dr. William Wynn Westcott] described his order in the following terms, saying that they were:

“concerned in the study and administration of medicines, and in their manufacture along old lines; they also teach and practice the curative effects of coloured light, and cultivate mental processes which are believed to induce spiritual enlightenment and extended powers of the human senses, especially in the directions of clairvoyance and clairaudience.”

My own investigations and experiments at the Lily Dale spiritist community forty miles south of Buffalo, New York USA, have proven to me that there is much more knowledge that has been withheld from us, than we could ever learn in our entire lives. This knowledge lies outside of what we have been manipulated into believing is our own limitation of perception. An example of this type of perception is what is known to us to be instinct or intuition. We are taught that only animals have instincts, and this is simply not true. The human intuition has been turned off by the manner in which we are educated in the government’s compulsory public school system of the U.S.A., which exists to condition all its’ students to accepting whatever it is that we are being told by all authority figures.

This is also why my own life’s work has focused on understanding this system, which successfully shuts off the true intuitive ability of the vast majority of people. Intuition empowers people, and gives them a tool with which to protect themselves and their loved ones. As I have seen time and time again, the global elite are always looking to circumvent everything that empowers people, replacing it with a form of mental conditioning that turns folks into drones who are reactive, instead of being proactive in their own lives.

The 741 Signature was also referenced in the following excerpt from The Vision & The Voice, pg. 140:

“Thou didst seek the four powers and the seven delights and the twelve emancipations and the two and twenty privileges and the nine and forty manifestations, and lo! thou art become as one of these.”

In the above, the four refers to the four Powers of the Sphinx, which are “to know, to will, to dare, to be silent.”

The seven delights are addressed by Buddhist philosophy. The poetic verse entitled The Seven Delights, was written by Gyalwa Gotsangpa, a Yogi of the fifteenth century. The seven delights are as follows: thoughts that arise; klieshas coming up [conflicting, disturbing, or negative emotions]; obstacles that arise; karmic consequences; illness; when mind forsakes the body; adverse conditions happening; and a little song of sheer delight.

The twelve emancipations refer to the twelve steps to spiritual enlightenment: 1) body awareness; 2) relaxation; 3) rhythmic breathing; 4) mind awareness; 5) concentration: use of the mantram; 6) developing the will; 7) rose cross ritual; 8) middle pillar ritual; 9) symbol of devotion; 10) practice of the presence of God; 11) unity with God; 12) invoke often, and inflame thyself with prayer.

The two and twenty refers to the number of paths of the Tree of Life.

The nine and forty manifestations is a reference to the Rose of 49 Petals. This is a design that can be found in the Vault of the Adepti, upon the head of the Pastos, the symbolic coffin of the Rosicrucian founder Christian Rosencreutz. The symbol of the Golden Greek Cross emblazoned with the Rose of the 49 petals is also known as the Rose of the Gates of Light.

This number of 49 taken another way, can also refer to the fifty gates of understanding, whereupon the magician undergoes 7 weeks (49 days total) of intensive self-examination, followed by one day of prophetic revelation. Each of the 49 constitutes various configurations of the lower seven sepheria of the Tree of Life, below the Supernal Triad, the three sepheria above the Abyss; such as Chesed in Geburah, Chesed in Tiphareth, etc. For the complete list of all fifty, please see the website listed under the Sources section at the end of this essay:

  • 04) Chesed/Mercy/Jupiter
  • 05) Geburah/Strength/Mars
  • 06) Tiphareth/Beauty/Sol
  • 07) Netzach/Victory/Venus
  • 08) Yod/Splendor/Mercury
  • 09) Yesod/Foundation/Luna
  • 10) Malkuth/Kingdom/Earth

Taken together, the one of the above quoted excerpt, refers to the unity of all of these with the magician, which combine to create sublime divinity --- the release of the God within.

The number 741 and the digits that combine therein, have made themselves known to me in many ways throughout the years. The aspect of all this that verified that my old friend Joan was correct in what she told me during that Tarot card reading of so many years ago, was their appearance in everything important in my life, and to my life. The appearances of these numbers has been so frequent, that I have filled an entire book with example after example of their appearances in my life. While I won’t bore the reader with boring repetitions of such examples, allow me to select just one example, which I believe more than adequately sets forth the manner in which they have appeared to me throughout the past thirty-five years.

The address at which I conducted my commercial printing business Graphitech, was 17 North Main Street, in Angola, New York USA. A suburb of Buffalo, New York, this provided me with two of the three digits; the 1 and 7. When it came time for me to purchase my home, it happened to have the house number of 14, thus completing the cycle. A few people have posited that I picked these two addresses purely because of their building numbers of 17 and 14. I laugh at such ridiculous suppositions, as there were many other factors that led me to these two addresses, none of which had anything to do with the numbers of the buildings themselves.

However, after we had closed the deal on our home at the street address of 14, the following jumped out at me upon examining the land deed for our new home. You see, this building was house # 14, farm lot # 17, land tract # 11, and row # 7. There were all my numbers, right before my eyes, the 1, 4, and 7! Furthermore, the date of our closing the deal was April 17, which in date shorthand is 4/17. These three numbers appeared in an unbroken sequence in our house insurance policy, and upon every power meter on our property, meters that were installed many years previous. Furthermore, the sum total of the digits of our home telephone number are 28, which is the number gained from the following equation:

7 x 4 x 1 = 28

And on and on it goes . . .

The Magickal Aspects of Kentroversy:

Kentroversy is an elevenfold name, uniting the pentagram of the five elements (including spirit), with the unicursal hexagram of the six. Together, the two equal eleven, the sacred number of the Great Work itself. Because of this relationship, Frater K.·. D.·. B.·. wears a 14-karat gold pentagram and a sterling silver magickal hexagram around his neck, on a gold rope chain. The pentagram represents the five elements; earth, air, fire, water, and spirit. The gold of the pentagram represents Sol, day, and the male principle. The unicursal hexagram represents; Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Luna, Mercury, Mars, and Sol. The silver of the hexagram represents Luna, night, and the female principle. Together, they represent the balance between the cosmic yin and yang --- which manifests itself in the duality between day and night; male and female energy (father and mother); and the interplay between the elements and the planets.

Aleister Crowley said in his numerology book entitled 777, that “eleven is the general number of magick, and of energy tending to change.” On page 43 of his essay entitled ‘Gematria,’ Crowley said the following:

“The great magickal number, as uniting the antithesis of five and six. AVD = the magick force itself.”

AVD, or Aud, is the Fire of the Magick Light, which is equal to eleven, and Liber AL vel Legis [Book AL, or The Book of the Law] had the following to say about the elevenfold force, which is the primary force in the system of magick:

I:60“My number is 11, as all their numbers who are of us. The five pointed star, with a circle in the middle & the circle is red. My color is black to the blind, but the blue & gold are seen of the seeing. Also, I have a secret glory for them that love me.”

In Liber 11 [Book 11, or The Book of NU], the following is found in verse 16, which is a description of the third practice of magick art:

“Let the Aspirant prepare a Pantacle, as follows. Inscribe a circle within a Pentagram, upon a ground square or of such other convenient shape as he may choose. Let the circle be scarlet, the Pentagram black, the ground royal blue studded with golden stars.”

Furthermore, the sentence “My color is black to the blind, but the blue & gold are seen of the seeing” is a reference to that which is seen by the uninitiated versus that which is seen by the initiated. The uninitiated see only the blackness of night, while those of us who are initiated see the golden stars upon the azure blue body of the sky goddess herself.

The general theme here, which can be discovered by the number of the book of NU, is the number eleven. This is the principal number of the Great Work, uniting the 5 and the 6. Everything related to magick itself will somehow relate to the number 11. We have the word Abrahadabra, which is an elevenfold name, just as is Kentroversy. The number of Abrahadabra, the Word of the Aeon, is 418, which is the sum of 11 multiplied by 38.

II:16“I am the Empress & the Hierophant. Thus eleven, as my bride is eleven.”

In this verse, the object is the number eleven, which once again appears as a reference to those “who are of us.” The Empress is trump 3 of the Tarot, and the Hierophant is trump 5. However, this gives us an 8, and not an 11. There are two ways in which this configuration can give us an 11. First, if we spell HAD in the following manner, VAD [Vau + Aleph + Daleth] we receive the following numbers; 6 + 1 + 4 = 11. The resultant spelling Vadit, is Latin meaning “He goes.” This corresponds to Crowley’s own fifth power of the Sphinx, which he stated as “to go.” The second manner in which we arrive at a number 11 for the Empress + Hierophant equation, is simply by looking at the eighth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, which is Cheth (Ch + Y + Th). The Cabalistic number related to Cheth is 418, the number of Abrahadabra, the Word of the Aeon, which contains 11 letters, and is thus an elevenfold word. But, we are not through yet. In verse immediately preceding the above quote, II:15, the title of King is used, to which a secret is referred. When the title of King replaces Hierophant, the number of individual letters of the Empress + King equation comes out to exactly 11!

The number of Nu is 56 [i.e., 5 + 6 = 11], and when combined with the 11 letters derived from the Empress + King equation, it can honestly be stated that:

“Thus eleven, as my bride is eleven.”

Put into more flowery terms, it is the rose of the five petals and the unfolded cube of the sixfold golden cross. The magickal word of Ra-Hoor-Khuit, Abrahadabra, itself contains eleven letters. Eleven bears special significance to Nuit, Hadit, and Ra-Hoor-Khuit, the Thelemic triune. Both names of Hoor-Pa-Kraat (Harpocrates) and Ra-Hoor-Khuit have eleven letters. The Law of Thelema contains eleven words; “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.” The reader should become aware of correspondences to ALL of these things, and recognize the importance of discovering how all of this fits together. The more correlations the student can discover, the magickal foundation will be much more sturdy, and this adds to the magician’s own strength and protection.

Conclusion:

It is my hope that I have been able to adequately describe a real-life example of how a magickal name or motto is selected, and how well it fits into the surrounding circumstances of the magician’s life. The method employed to scientifically verify if a particular magickal motto, or aspiration name, is appropriate to that of the magician, is to simply begin studying the various correspondences, to see if they fit not only Cabalistically and Magickally, but also if they fit in with the known personality and character of the magician himself. In the examples given here in this essay, it had been discovered that Kentroversy was perfect in so many ways.

As had been stated by the use of the Qabalistic Notariqon phrase that represents the Action of Magick:

A C T N of Magick

Kentroversy was found to be suitable by employing the scientific method in each of the following esoteric systems; Astrology, Cabala, Tarot, Numerology, and Magick. In each one of these five systems unto themselves would have been quite amazing to discover correspondences linking the individual esoteric systems with the magician who is known as Kentroversy. Then, with each succeeding discipline, it would not be at all surprising to find that the cohesiveness of this system begins to break apart. However, instead of that happening, what took place was the further correlation of each subcomponent with the whole. This is what tells the magician that he has selected the correct motto best representing his own magickal aspirations, and the discovery of his own True Will.

Should the reader wish to investigate this on their own, I have listed the appropriate books in which the necessary information may be found. The aspirant should immediately begin self-assessment, which will tell the type of personality they have. There is no better system than Astrology that indicates the circumstances under which each one of us was born. This will give the base personality, and the other four esoteric disciplines will either construct a sturdy structure, or with the addition of each successive esoteric system, the whole building will begin to fall in upon itself.

To give oneself the best chance of success, it is incumbent upon the individual to be extremely honest about themselves when engaging in this process of self-assessment. It serves no purpose to obfuscate and obscure the truth, and no good could ever come out of this self-defeating behavior. However, if the individual is prepared to be brutally honest with themselves, then the rewards can include a stronger magickal power and influence, as well as a better understanding of who they really are both as a person, and as a student of magick.
